I don't see why making the distribution or installation of warez more
difficult would NEED to be making the installation of legal stuff more
difficult, and why making installation of 'warez' harder and making
installation of legal software easier couldn't be attempted at the same
time.
I can imagine at least a couple of ways for the copy protection to work
invisibly to the legal user, in the worst case resulting in a 0.5 second
delay required to exchange a couple of data packets with the server. Even if
some kind of post-install activation is used, it does not need to be the
oldfashioned way (keying in a code) but it can also be done automatically.
And how easy installation from the store is will mostly depend on how well
the store (and its client) is made, not on whether there is a (well made)
copy protection or not.
In case of the Nokia store there was absolutely no copy-protection, but so
what if the store itself was flawed and permanently troubled with dozens of
technical issues. Two of my applications had a problem that people could buy
(pay for) them but not download them and it took Nokia A MONTH to fix it
while lots of customers kept calling me names and demanding money back. I
don't think that even the worst copy-protection can result in a user
experience as bad as on the Nokia store without any copy-protection...
Cheers,
Michal
