Could you check SSH logs on the VM side? For that purpose please
start the MerSDK VM directly from VirtualBox and quit Qt Creator
*before* that (it would try to reconnect periodically, filling
the log excessively). Started this way the MerSDK VM will show
its window - read the instructions there, log in, then check
logs e.g. with 'journalctl -b _COMM=sshd' before/after trying to
log in via SSH. Possibly increase SSH verbosity on both client
and server side.

You can copy logs from the VM via /home/mersdk/share/ which is
mapped to your HOME by default.
