That explains a lot, still:
when I load the imagegallery example
I get (Tools>Options>build/Run)

"/home/wim/SailfishOS/share/qtcreator/MerProject/mer-sdk-tools/MerSDK/SailfishOS-i486-x86/qmake"
(/home/wim=the host machine)
  as the 'qmake location'.

Are there some other over-ruling settings I am missing?
